The epidural, largely used in gynaecologic surgery and during delivery, allows, by a simple injection in the lower dorsal region, to obtain full anesthesia below the waist. It can be accompanied, if the patient desires it, by a IV sedation. This anesthesia is often used during liposuctions.
The general anesthesia is used for interventions lasting more than 2 hours but can be requested by patients preferring this mode of anesthesia. It has made important progress in the areas of safety and comfort. It is mandatory for breast hypertrophy treatment and abdominoplasty, but it can equally be recommended to realize a facial surgery or a liposuction.
