Different kinds of implants
- Silicone gel filled implants are being used the most and are considered very efficient : its consistence feels extremely natural. Furthermore, the quality of the silicones used allows, in case of rupture, to eliminate all unwanted leak.
- Saline filled implants are nowadays very little used : its consistence is less natural and the risk of rupture, unpredictable, is important.
Finally, the implants’ elastic envelope allows its placement through a very small incision.
It is remarkable that modern implants are coated with a rough surface called “textured” in order to efficiently prevent the hardening of the breast in 95% of the cases.
Saline filled implants placed behind the pectoralis muscle. Three year result.
Ptoctic breasts having lost their volume after two pregnancies.
These two defects are corrected by implants placed through an inferior periareolar approach.
After evaluation the breast for its size, skin quality and eventual ptosis, the surgeon discusses the desired modifications with the patient.
Several factors must be considered :
- patient’s aesthetic wishes,
- related possibilities based on body structure : height, weight, shoulder width, …, in order to obtain a harmonious and natural looking result.
Depending on these elements are chosen :
- the volume of the implants,
- its position in regard to the pectoral muscle : if the skin is thin and the mammary gland small, the implant will be placed behind the muscle,
- the incision : it measures 4 cm in average. It can be axillary (armpit), hemiareolar in the mammary fold.
Implant placed through the axilla (armpit). The scar is in a crease and is invisible.
Breasts
Implant placed through the inferior periareolar approach. The scar is of excellent quality and is practically invisible.
- Preoperative tests are required. For women over 35 and those who have had children, a mammogram is needed.
- Hospitalization : 24 hours.
- Duration of surgery : 1 hour.
- Anesthesia : general.
- Dressing : compressive and moulding night and day the first 3 days, then a regular bra night and day for 1 month depending on the operation.
